Democracy

Democracy

UN CRC Article 12:  Children have the right to say what they think should happen, when adults are making decisions that affect them, and to have their opinions taken into account.

We promote democracy by electing a School Council and Head Pupils. The CLT (Children’s Leadership Team) supports our Big Vote during UK Parliament Week and meets weekly to discuss aspects of the Academy Development Plan.

During our Votes for Schools sessions we promote weekly discussion on challenging issues. It empowers our pupils to have their voices heard by

voting and commenting on a key question. Children are learning about the world around them and they are participating in a democratic process. These sessions instill the skills of being informed, being curious and being heard.

UK Parliament week is another great opportunity we use to empower our pupils to participate in democratically casting a vote.
