Friday 21st September 2018
Dear Parents/ Carers,
We are pleased with how the children continue to settle into school and how excited they were to stay for lunch this week. Thank you for choosing your child’s lunch option or packed lunch on the sheet outside the classrooms each morning. You can also view the week’s menu choices on the school website ahead of time. From Monday 24th September the children will be staying for the full day 8:50am – 3:05pm.
This week we also started our phonics lessons. You will find the first four sounds (phonemes) that we have been learning in a small plastic wallet in your child’s reading folder (s, a, t, p). These are for you to use at home to practise saying, reading and writing the sounds. There is also a sheet with ideas for activities. Please keep these sounds in the bag in your child's reading folder as we will be adding new sounds and words to these as the term progresses.
On Monday the children will have their first library session. They will then bring home a book of their choice to share with you. Please ensure that this book is returned every Monday so they can choose a new book.
Reading books will come home week beginning 1st October as we are continuing to assess children’s pre-reading and language skills. In the meantime we would ask that you continue to enjoy story time with your children to continue to develop their love of books.
The children experienced their introduction to PE this week with Mr Wichelow. From next week the children will be changing into their PE kits for PE and gym lessons. Please bring your child’s PE kit into school on Monday. We will return PE kits for washing at half-term.
Thank you to all the parents who have named their children’s uniform, coats, lunch boxes and water bottles. Please take the time to do this to help us, particularly as we start changing for PE.
