Friday 8th March - Friday 5th April 2019
Dear Parents/ Carers,
We are continuing to explore our topic of "Growing and Changing" for this half-term. We have been planting seeds and bulbs and are enjoying watching them grow and change. We are also thinking about how we have grown and changed since we were babies. Thank you for sending in photographs of your child as a baby/toddler to help with this.
The children enjoyed the visit to WDA by Ark Farm and we will be following this with a visit to Odd's Farm where the children will be able to observe and interact with a number of different farm animals and think about how they grow and change. They will also enjoy the extensive play equipment on the trip as to support their on-going physical development. (Please see letter sent home 8/3/19).
We are continuing to work in groups for phonics. Please continue to check your child's folder as the different groups send out the sounds to practise and other phonic ideas when the teacher feels they would benefit from your support to consolidate their knowledge and skills at home. Please do not hesitate to ask if you are unsure about any of the phonics learning.
Over the next few weeks and following on from our work on doubling we will be exploring halving and sharing. We will also look at capacity and revisit 2d and 3d shapes.
Reading and Writing
We have been enjoying the story The Gigantic Turnip by Aleksei Tolstoy and Niamh Sharkey. We will also be reading Oliver's Milkshake and Oliver's Vegetables by Vivian French and Alison Bartlett. Finally we will be reading an information book about Eggs. Please share any stories or information books with you child, particularly if they link to our topic.
We continue to use our knowledge of phonemes and tricky words to extend children's writing including recounts of their trip, observations of plants growing, instructions/recipes and information sheets about ourselves to include in our time capsule to see how we will change over a year.
Well done to all the children who have already earned certificates for Mathletics. If you haven't explored this valuable resource to support your child's mathematics learning we would encourage you to logon and check it out.
Bug Club - supplements your child's reading of physical books. Books have been allocated to the children at an appropriate reading level to support reading and understanding.
Red Nose Day - Friday 15th March 2019
Farm Trip to Odd's Farm - Tuesday 26th March 2019.
Thank you for your support.
