Spring 1:

Our Learning Challenge for this half term will be:

What makes West Drayton a good place to live?

Highlights Last Week:

English: We learned about writing comparisons. We learned that to compare we need to think about what is similar as well as what is different. We used our text as a focus for our comparisons and made comparisons between where we live and where Belle, a character in our text, lives.

Maths: We learned about telling the time to quarter of an hour and also to the nearest five minutes. We returned to number lines and learned about placing numbers correctly on a landmarked number line using estimation and approximation. Please continue to support your child with learning to tell the time from an analogue clock eg quarter past…

Topic: We learned about what animals need to survive and thought about how the habitat they live in provides for their needs. In computing, we continued to learn about using digital photos. We looked at the photos we had already uploaded and practiced editing and enhancing them. In art, we continued to look at the work of Monet and in DT we began to look at mechanisms.

This week:

English: This week we will be learning about story writing. We will start by practicing how to retell a story verbally. We will also plan and write our own stories based on Belle’s adventures. Once we have written our stories we will try to edit and improve them.

Maths: This week we will be learning about division. We will start with some practical sharing and will use the symbol for division. We will also learn about the link between division and multiplication.

Topic: This week we will be completing our DT project. We will learn about using templates, joining materials and mechanisms in order to make our own moving vehicles.

See you at school!
